Frequently Asked Questions

What are the hours and schedules for Beacon CDC?

We are open Monday to Friday from 6:00 to 5:30 pm.  We do close throughout the year for major holidays including some federal holidays.  Parents are notified well in advance of all closures. We prefer that children be dropped off by 9:00 am each day to benefit from consistency of the daily schedule and scheduled activities in the respective classrooms.

At what age does Beacon CDC accept students?

BCDC accepts students as young as 6 weeks old to 12 year old and space is limited due to state regulations for each classroom.

What are the tuition rates?  Are there discounts for siblings?

Tuition rates are based upon part-time (4 days per week) or full-time enrollment status as well as age group.  Discounts of 20% are applied to siblings. Our website has additional information on tuition rates.

Can I check on my child during the day?

Yes, we encourage parents to regularly communicate with teachers using our Brightwheel app. Our teachers will also share information with you regarding your child and can also send pictures to you. The director and owner also have video access at all times both inside and outside the classrooms.

What are the qualifications of teachers?

Our teachers are credentialed through coursework at local community colleges and additional Early Childhood Education training provided by the state.  Most importantly, we work diligently to identify and hire nurturing and committed staff members that will meet your children where they are and guide them to reach their fullest potential in the most loving environment.

What is the student-teacher ratio?

Child to staff ratios are set by the state based upon best practices in research in the early childhood education field.  The ratio is determined by the age of the child and room capacity.

What curriculum is used at Beacon CDC?

Our curriculum focuses on activity-based settings or themes to promote children’s natural curiosity to learn about the world around them while integrating intentional skills in learning with age-appropriate activities.  Our teachers facilitate and create a community that emphasizes responsibility, stimulates collaborative play and learning, and promotes mutual respect.  Children learn to have confidence, independence, high self-esteem and develop a joy of learning.  We plan to follow Creative Curriculum (thematic units) with a modified Montessori approach to learning beginning in August of 2021.

What Is the discipline policy?

Our teachers utilize positive behavior recognition along with thinking time when negative behaviors are presented. Based upon the child’s age, we work through a series of steps to teach appropriate reactions and how to use words to share feelings.  There are times, however, when we must involve parents to address negative behaviors and work toward solutions.

What are the health and safety precautions taken to limit the spread of common illnesses?

Beacon CDC takes the health and safety of our families and staffs very seriously and follows the NC State Child Care Guidelines for cleaning and sanitizing our classrooms and other spaces.  We work diligently with parents to minimize the exposure and risk of spreading illnesses by following best practices in daily hygiene and isolation when necessary. With Covid-19, we have increased our sanitizing as well as changed processes within the building to minimize the risk of exposure and spread.
