Our mission
Our mission is to create a safe and nurturing environment that promotes the development of independent thinkers and doers that are socially, emotionally, and culturally prepared to make a difference in our world. Through child-centered, developmentally appropriate experiences and a child’s natural curiosity, our students will pave their own path for learning as they explore and engage with the all the rich possibilities of childhood.
Our Philosophy
At Beacon, we believe that children are individuals with unique voices and ideas that must be valued and supported as they grow as independent learners, thinkers and doers. We feel this is best achieved through hands-on, multi-sensory, exploratory learning opportunities. We believe children’s interests should be respected as they learn to ask questions, find answers, and share their discoveries with others.
We strongly believe that our learning community requires committed educators and engaged families to fulfill its mission.
At Beacon, WE BELIEVE that EVERY child deserves a safe and nurturing environment that actively encourages social, emotional, physical and cognitive development.
WE BELIEVE that ALL children need a warm and inviting atmosphere to learn and to develop self-expression, communication and critical thinking skills. Through play, text, pictures, art, music and natural discovery, WE BELIEVE that children can reach their full potential socially, emotionally and intellectually.
WE BELIEVE that children are motivated to learn when they have opportunities to make choices in an environment that is enriching and stimulating. Children are curious from infancy and have a desire to learn from their environment those around them. When children are encouraged to interact with their peers and adults in positive ways, they feel safe to explore their surroundings which in turn leads to rich learning. We strive at Beacon to create this unique and nurturing learning environment.
Beacon’s Curriculum
Beacon’s curriculum philosophy is modeled after Maria Montessori’s philosophy for children’s development. At the center of her “Montessori Philosophy” is that children our naturally curious and through self-directed and guided activities, hands-on learning and collaborative play, they will be on the path to reaching their full potential. In the Montessori setting, children (beginning at age 3) make creative choices in their learning, while their highly trained teacher provide age-appropriate guidance and opportunities. Every material in a Montessori classroom supports a specific component of a child’s development from the wall color and lighting to the toys and textures within the classroom and outdoor environments.
